Carlson Responds
Here’s more evidence that someone is reading out there in cyberspace…
First ‘AM New York’ publisher Russel Pergament called to take exception to my account of his censorship of my weekly media column there (Censored) and to tell me that by writing about the incident, I had ‘resigned” from his newspaper (Fired).
Then Tucker Carlson phoned in to yell at me about my take (PBS Unfiltered) on his new, politically-correct PBS public affairs program ‘Tucker Carlson Unfiltered.’
Young Tuck was none too happy, either — telling me “I deeply resent what you wrote,” and that he found it ” dumb, gratuitous, nasty and stupid.”
Kinda what I said about his television career!
Carlson also said he thought it was “shitty to mention my father.” I thought it eminently reasonable, however, given that Carlson fils continually claims he has no idea how public broadcasting works, and Carlson pere used to run it as chief of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. CPB, of course, is the very entity that has deemed it necessary to tilt PBS even further to the right, so as to “balance” such dangerous journalists as Bill Moyers, whose weekly public affairs program is so powerful it led the public bureaucrats to find and fund a conservative to counter it. No doubt Carlson’s familial connections had nothing to do with the decision!
Tucker concluded with the last refuge of the inarticulate, sputtering “fuck you!” before abruptly terminating our otherwise fascinating conversation.
Oh well — at least he didn’t call me a “cunt,” as New York Timesman Tod Purdum recently did Nikki Finke of the LA Weekly.
On the other hand, Purdum DID immediately fax Finke an apology. I’m still waiting for mine from the baby-faced assassin of the public airwaves!
