I hate to see that happen. I hate when black people appear in the tabloids, when they are used as symbols of beauty and when they make money from music they create. The last two seasons of American Idol had the "three divas", all black, and the second season had two blacks in the final three. And then there are Janet and Michael Jackson. Nuff said. The Times reputation is totally undeserved, and not just because of this business move. Their news writers are basically unsupervised, and allowed to publish a wide range of journalist trash. - Dozens of pieces were done on Kerry's so-called flaws as a Catholic. There were no comparable stories on Bush's religion or for that matter anyone elses. Is Ariel Sharon's religious fidelity worth reporting on? Do all Rabbi's approve of what Richard Perle does? Or is this bias? - In a particularly favorite story (I can't find it now but it may be available in Lexus), one of their reporters covering a sports story talked about a man of Irish background and said he had a face like a potatoe. (Seriously). - They had a steady stream of personal attacks on Kerry. Their approach was to diss Bush on (some) policy issues, but to diss Kerry and other democrats with more personal digs. This approach certainly contributed to the election outcome. Their ombudsman is useless. Any staff of high school newspaper writers could do a more professional job. Thanks for covering this.
