The Path from 9/11
Now that all the books have been published and promoted… And the Hollywood films have all opened – and closed… And all the radio and television commentaries and commemorative specials have been broadcast… and all the dramas…and the so-called ‘docudramas’…and even a handful of reality-based, actual ‘documentaries’ have aired and been argued over, ad infinitum and ad nauseum, on the web and in the blogosphere…at long last, and after all has been said — but so little really has been done — where do we find ourselves, and where do we go from here, on the long, confusing, circuitous and still ever-painful path from 9/11?
To answer that question, we first must come to understand truly what happened in and to America five years ago, how it happened, and — most important – why. Yet the plethora of attack-related media that has exploded onto our public consciousness in the recent run-up to the fifth ‘anniversary’ of the terror attacks has done nothing to help us understand any of it. Yes, books have been sold, theatres filled, ratings raised, circulations increased, reputations enhanced — but I repeat: nothing has been done to help us understand.
This, despite the obvious talents of directors like Paul Greengrass of ‘United 93’ and Oliver Stone of ‘World Trade Center;’ despite the literary investigations of reporters like Peter (‘Triple Cross’) Lance and Lawrence (“The Looming Tower’) Wright; or the vivid recollections of Kristin (‘Wake-up Call’) Breitweiser and the self-serving apologia (‘Without Precedent’) of Thomas Kean and Lee Hamilton; despite the National Geographic Channel’s eviscerated version of Lance’s book; despite Court TV’s documentary embrace of ‘On Native Soil,’ based the discredited 9/11 Commission report; despite Spike TV’s ode to metalworkers and millions of downloads of ‘Loose Change;’ despite CBS’s re-run of the same French documentary it aired years ago; and yes! despite ABC’s cretinous and much-discussed docudrama ‘The Path to 9/11’ — despite it all, all the bluster, all the recriminations, all the posturing, all the politics and all the media attention, attention still must be paid.
Attention — first to the families, our touchstones who suffered more than any and who still seek deliverance from that suffering in their unending search for the truth of what happened. Attention next to the many questions about 9/11 that remain unanswered – questions large and small, new and old; such as why the Pentagon held back so much information about air defense deficiencies from the 9/11 Commission that Chairmen Kean and Hamilton came close to asking the Justice Department to launch a criminal investigation; such as why the dozens of pre-attack warnings pouring into Washington were ignored; such as why the Able Danger intelligence program, which purportedly uncovered evidence of five active Al Qaeda cells and identified four of the eventual hijackers months before the attacks, was ignored and closed down; such as why Osama bin Laden was allowed to escape from Afghanistan when cornered in Tora Bora; such as why evidence of Pakistani intelligence involvement in the 9/11 plot has been ignored and covered up…Attention fully paid, then, to “press for truth” (the title of another 9/11-related documentary I am an Executive Producer of) about what actually happened, how it happened, and who helped make it happen — as a means of finally approaching the reality of why it happened — and perhaps in the course of that search, ensuring that it can never happen again.
A logical starting point, and something that some family members spoke out for at a recent press conference in Washington, D.C., is to support calls for a new, reopened, and non-partisan investigation. There is little doubt that that the 9/11 Commission Report has become the Warren Commission report of our time – a fatally flawed official examination that ended up raising more questions than it answered, owing to a toxic brew of politics, partisanship, personal agendas and presidential obstruction. Chairman Thomas Kean’s recent paid involvement with ABC’s fictitious ‘historical’ docudrama is but the latest reminder that the 9/11 tragedy has yet to be investigated fully or fairly – or in a NON-partisan (as opposed to BI-partisan!) manner.
Both Kean and his Democratic Party counterpart Lee Hamilton now acknowledge that the Pentagon didn’t play straight with them, and that they and their fellow commissioners bowed to political pressure when didn’t fully question New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani about his management decisions and emergency responses. Other commissioners complained repeatedly about White House obstacles put in their path – yet the commissioners chose to issue their report nonetheless, even in the face of staff objections that there wasn’t enough time to follow all leads. The commissioners also allowed the President and Vice President to testify together—and not under oath—and went along with other Administration demands, such as the one that only a minority of the commissioners could see a minority of the documents requested – and even then had to vet their notes with the White House before sharing them with the full Commission! So Kean’s paid advisory role to the discredited ABC miniseries is best understood as just the latest evidence of his shattered credibility – and that of his Commission as well.
At the risk of stating the obvious, let me conclude by noting that we can never move beyond 9/11 until we obtain a fuller understanding of the events of that day and what underlies them. And until we have a complete, thorough and non-partisan investigation, that will never happen. We must continue to ‘press for truth’ in connection with the events of September 11, 2001 — for we still don’t know the true ‘path to 9/11,’ and until we do, we can never find the path from 9/11.
How can we expect any respect for those directly impacted by 911 when Ann Coulter is rewarded with book deals and interviews for condemning the families of the victims? How can we expect any justice when Chomsky throws in the towel? It’s now time for the media and government to cannibalise their respective selves as the global war for physical and intellectual resources kicks into high gear. There is no turning back. Renew your passport, plan for a simpler life (post-Armageddon)in a far-flung place where a simpler life has nothing to do with Paris Hilton.

Who’s trying to rationalize justifications for its use?

Picture another defined area into which people were led that contained a poisonous atmosphere.

Is it too late to try to convince them to take the stolen money back, express their sorrow to the family of the one they killed and face up to the consequences like a man or woman? It would have been so much better it we the public would have had wind of the impending crime of 9/11 so that we could have counseled those planning that robbery and murder of the horrible consequences of such an act. A robbery, 3.5 billion in compensation from insurance companies was paid and 100’s of billions went to the defense industry and Iraq reconstruction contractors. Murder, 2,972 people lives were ended without remorse. How do we now turn the pages of time back to September 10, 2001, when Osama bin Laden was checking into the hospital in Rawalpindi Pakistan for his regular dialysis treatment. God, if we could only do that we wouldn’t now be faced with this horrible dilemma. We all know that if we do nothing, the whole unconscionable disaster will visit us again, because the conspirators got cleanly away with our money. This has happened again and again and again from the time of our great great grandfathers and every time we just pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and muster what little strength we have left to rebuild our lives. Is this time any different. Can’t we just get up, dust ourselves off and start building our lives anew again? Aren’t we running out of the resources that have allowed us to rebuild our lives in the past? Don’t we need what resources we have left to begin to build a completely new life with new plentiful resources we haven’t thought to gather before? Don’t we this time need to protect our lives so that we keep our strength in order to venture out tomorrow on a quest to find the new resources we need to gather for ourselves? Can we allow our lives to be destroyed again just so those who destroyed them can charge us again for their assistance? Can we let the murderers and robbers of our lives go this time. Can we just dust ourselves off this time and wait until they hunger again for yet another perhaps even bigger piece of our lives? I think we all know deep down inside that we can’t rest this time until we know all that happened and who did this to us. Otherwise we will just keep getting knocked down until finally we can no longer get up at all.

If the intent to commit a crime is discovered before the actual commission of the crime, the likely perpetrators could be counseled about the destruction of lives the crime would cause and there is a chance that these individuals intent on committing this crime might feel remorse and elect not to carry out their plans. But once the crime has been committed and lives shattered, those who have had their lives shattered will want justice commensurate with the amount of destruction visited upon them. In investigating 9/11 therefore, there will be no support by those who committed the crime for they cannot imagine enduring the reverse of what they have done. Therefore in order to uncover the truth, those investigating will have to pursue the truth like soldiers on a battlefield where the opponent seeks to eliminate the investigation and the investigator. As Michel Chossudovsky says in “Revealing the Lies” on 9/11 Perpetuates the “Big Lie” accpeting that 9/11 was the work of Islamic terrorists perpetuates the mith that the White House was merely incompetant. That entire dialogue provides the cover whcih perpetuated the myth that we are now more vulnerable than ever to an even more catastrophic attack. And from that perspective, even if you dissagree with Bush’s policy, you aren’t now going to be willing to reduce defense spending. By accepting that Islamic terrorists acting alone without the support of a superpower like the United State could have hikacked four planes from two airports, and then controlled those planes for up to an hour and a half without military intervention causing the total destruction of three of the most well constructed steel high rises in the country and slipped past Pentagon missle defenses undetected to cause serious damage to that building, then you allow for the premise that we, from now on must be ever vigilant. And if you accept that you must admit that the military industrial complex is justified in spending hundreds of billions of dollars to maintian that vigil. But if 9/11 was a conspiracy, then the military industrial complex is creating the justification for it’s own expansion and increased funding. Nothing will be done on this matter until most people get their heads out of the sand and realise that most of the people behind 9/11 were either mossad spies, israeli dual nationals, AIPAC and PNAC. This IS the government.
Who benefits? Israel.
100s of spies were sent home after 9/11 by the israeli national Chertoff before they could even be questioned. And this is the man running Homeland Security.
It is treason of the highest order and for me israel is the mortal enemy of the USA.
