The new media, ironically, needs the old media. The Big Three - CNN, MSNBC and Fox News - need to incorporate the new media. Need I remind you what happened to the other Big Three? Read my letter to the editor on YouTube Democracy in the link above.

I agree that CNN ought to let its fear of people's power go. It is the people who eventually decide who is voted in office and who is not.
It is the politicians who decide which politician is rigged in office against the wishes of the people. This means that by censoring who and which question is asked during the presidential debate through YouTube, only helps the pollutician and not the people.

I disagree news corpse. While YouTube and Google were promoted through this venture, I feel that that's a good thing. YouTube is, at this moment, the vanguard of citizen media and should be encouraged in order to build a greater democracy. The real problem is that CNN refused to let those very citizens that asked the questions to decide which ones to be presented at the debate.

"the most popular question – which went unchosen by the CNN priesthood and thus unasked – was a very serious one about the possible impeachment of President Bush."
That says a lot about CNN's commitment to an open debate process and citizen media.

I was underwhelmed by the CNN/YouTube experiment. See my take here:

The Two Hour YouTube Commercial On CNN
"What they succeeded at was promoting YouTube and it’s corporate parent, Google. The program was a two hour American Idol style commercial for a business that has a broad portfolio of vested interests in media and politics. CNN is partnered with Google who’s search engine is featured on their web site. And all of the political players on the stage have potential for benefiting Google’s regulatory agenda."
